NPR³: Splats!
The Splats came to life one afternoon when a power surge in a secret military laboratory melded organic specimens from Mars with Human DNA. As a result of the accident, the Splats formed, evolving into a freakish appearance with only certain human characteristics. Some of these characteristics became hideously mutated, providing the with Splats special abilities.
After failed attempts to escape individually, the Splats decided to cooperate and escape the professor's lab. It would be a dangerous journey, but one they would have to make to keep their existence a secret.
