Nevermind Games at Dare 2010

23rd June

23rd June 2010

Hot Damn, we've neglected this a bit, and as such we have a much bigger update for our happy & super attractive followers. WiiKick is now live as a lovely bare bones state that we call pre-pre-alpha. On the programming side of things, the guys, Boo, Spoon and Mark have got a menu, a scene, physics and best of all, Wiimote input which is taken from a kicking motion. Which means that yes, we have our Wiistrap for strapping the Wiimote to your foot. Sadly though we only have it in one size, which is affectionately been titled, mad small. However that just so happens to be the size printed inside Boo's shoes so he's been kicking invisible balls periodically throughout the last few days. Right now their priority is polishing up the input to the point where we have a playable game regardless of how it looks.  Which brings me nicely onto the art department. Where Veen and I reign, although it's hard to seem like one is reign-ing from behind a PC. Nevertheless, Veen is once again, producing crazy amounts of in game props and environments. We now have a level for one of our mini-games which, you will know if you have watched our first Vlog, is called Ball in a China Shop. Which involves players kicking a ball into a scenario with many breakable objects in order to rack up the biggest price-tag in damages. It must be odd to make objects knowing full well they are going to be destroyed. Just how it's odd to model a character and to now seem him breathing and jumping about the place in 3D. Meaning that yes, our Goalie is now skinned and is in the process of being animated. Yesterday we got a whole heap of video reference for goalie dives thanks to Veen's previous life as a fairly decent goalie. So now we can use this footage as a cheap motion capture alternative, and match our goalie's movements to Veen. Although we will have to exaggerate these motions to suit the character in question.  Righteo, that's all for this update. Continue to keep an eye on this space for more WiiKick information.
