Dare to be Digital in London

Host Centre

Goldsmiths, University of London will be the host centre for the London region.  Bringing creative and unconventional approaches to their subjects, everything they do is based on the highest academic standards of teaching and research.  And they have been part of the internationally respected University of London for more than a century.

With over 8,000 students currently studying at the university. Goldsmiths is all about the freedom to experiment to think differently, to be an individual. That's why their list of former students include the likes of Lucian Freud, Damien Hirst, Mary Quant and Malcolm McLaren.

With almost everything together on one site there's a strong campus feel to live here: big enough to offer some fantastic facilities, but not so big that things seem impersonal and unfriendly.

Based in New Cross, South East London, Goldsmiths has excellent transport connections to the head of the capital.

The City of London

London is one of the world’s greatest cities. Situated in southeast England on the river Thames, the UK capital is a political, financial, trading and cultural centre of global importance.

Important in Roman times the city has a population of around 8 million who inhabit a patchwork of neighbourhoods. London is the truly global village, a city of 33 distinct boroughs, from affluent Chelsea to trendy Hoxton, gastronomic Soho to bohemian Notting Hill.

A haven over many years for refugees and exiles, London has become home to at least 37 distinct immigrant groups where over 300 languages are spoken. It is a truly vibrant, multicultural cosmopolitan city.

Although the size of Greater London can appear daunting, it is a city which is surprisingly easy to get around with the comprehensive and easily navigated Tube. The world’s first urban underground passenger railway (the Tube) now has 268 stations and annually carries over a billion passengers – 3.4 million each weekday.

London’s claim to be the cultural capital of the world has been boosted by the disclosure that it had seven of the top forty world’s most visited museums and art galleries in 2007. Famous for heritage, shopping and theatre London is also home to famous tourist attractions including Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral and the London Eye.

This is definitely a city that has something for everyone!
