Video Games Studio At Dare ProtoPlay 2011

Could you develop the next Mario? If you dream of a career in games development, this workshop - run by the renowned games design competition, Dare to be Digital- is the one for you. With presentations from industry professionals, see behind the scenes of how a video game is created, what technology is involved and what the different development roles are. Working in a team you will create your own characters, try out some of the current technology and produce a small piece of animated video game. This fantastic 3 day workshop including an a FREE BAFTA Young Games Designers www.bafta.org/ygd session which will allow you to gain first-hand experience of video games creation and learn skills that will help you think of a future career in the video games industry.
Targeted at beginners, the workshop aims to provide you with an understanding of the artistic and technical processes involved in designing and developing interactive entertainment software. Through hands-on activities, short presentations and mentored group work you will be provided with the skills, knowledge and tools to be able to create a simple video game of your own design. No prior experience required.
Presented by the centre of Excellence in Computer Games Education at Abertay University and BAFTA Young Game Designers in association with Electronic Arts.

Any game enthusiast aged 11 - 16
Software:
The Programme framework was developed by staff at Abertay University. Some open source software is used in order that particpants are able to continue development following the workshop. Prior to the workshop, participants are encouraged to practice in particular GIMP - a free,open source software for image editing and photo re-touching. www.gimp.org/
About the Tutors:
Each team will have help from university student programmers and artists.
